This is so important. Julia Cameron has a similar technique she calls, Morning Pages. In essence, every morning, before speaking to anyone, you write three pages. You can write on your dreams, how the previous day was, things that are upsetting you, victories, or honestly anything you so desire.

Since doing this I have found trends and habits in my emotional life that I fall into. This also helps me process my emotions effectively and frequently.
