Keith Nordstrom: I don’t see any problem using “latest” when pulling down to your developer environments. But I don’t encourage using it in production. Let’s say you have a small production system with only 4 servers in it. If you are using “latest” to deploy, everything might be running fine, but then one of the servers fails at a point where the servers are not running the current latest, but they are running “latest from 2 days ago”, how will you replace this server?

It makes sense to use named tags with known versions that allows you to replace any server at any time with the exact same image.
