Jerry Hoffman
A grandfather of seventeen, and great grandfather of ten, eighty-one year old Jerry Hoffman often enjoyed spending time with family before his positive Covid-19 diagnosis. “If I don’t make it out of this, maybe it’s just my time to go. I don’t really regret a thing,” recalls Jeri Hoffman, his twenty-one year old granddaughter, of some of his last words. “We share the same name, except spelled different, obviously,” said Jeri.
“I remember our last conversation. It was in October, over at Deming Park; just filling each other in on what was going on in our life like we always would do,” said Jeri. The Hoffman’s were out celebrating a birthday within the family that day. “After it was all done and everybody went home, I got a text from them (her grandparents) saying how much they enjoyed that conversation, and how it meant a lot to them to be able to talk to their grandchildren,” said Jeri.
“He would wear a mask even though I know he didn’t really want to, that’s just the kind of person he was,” said Jeri. “This winter was really hard, especially on Brenda (Jerry’s wife). They were always together and so supportive of each other.”
While sick with Covid-19, Jerry developed bacterial pneumonia. As his condition worsened in late December 2020, Jerry Hoffman passed away on January 4th, 2021. He had been married to his wife Brenda for 53 years. “He gave the best hugs. We all miss him,” said Jeri.
