Photo Essay

This was something on campus that made feel safe. Personally it’s something I’ve never used but the fact that this is there whenever you need campus police to assist you is crucial. These are also all over campus, so they’re easily accessible.
This was the oldest thing I could find. Trees to me signify life and also live very long, I also but other tree in the background to add depth to the photo. This allows people to see more of what I’m trying to emphasis as well as make the photo look better, overall.
This was the newest thing I could find, this dedication of “Mother Teresa of Calcutta” is about 9 years old dating back to 2009. The reason why I made the date visible on my photo was because I wanted it to be clear for the audience to see what I’m trying to emphasize. I put the statue of her in the back as well so people can see a visual of the dedication clearly.
This photo was something that was inspiring to me because outside of all the construction, our campus is beautiful. This makes me feel blessed on where I go to school, knowing a lot of people don’t get this opportunity. The construction in the background adds an element of improvement, the people at Marquette are constantly trying to evolve the campus, that’s something we should be trying to strive for daily.
This scares me because to me it’s almost like a tombstone. The gesture is very nice, trying to remember somebody who reflected beauty on campus but at the same time, I believe in ghosts and this person could be roaming around campus at anytime. The supernatural world to me is one of the scariest things in the world.
This represents my dreams. Ever since I was a little kid I wanted to be a basketball player in the NBA, now coming to Marquette I feel like I’ve gotten much closer to my dreams. This gym represents hard work, blood, sweat and tears. The amount of time invested in gyms like this makes me think about where I want to be in a couple years. There’s no better feeling you get when you’re fortunate enough to walk into a gym. I included both nets as well to represent both all sides of the grind.
This was someone I don’t know that I had to take a photo of, she was the first person I felt comfortable asking and for some reason I knew she would smile. The smile makes for a better photo, so I went with my gut feeling and asked her to be in my photo. She was creeped out a little bit too and I don’t think we would be able to have a regular conversation now.
This is something beautiful, some flowers. I always thought pink flowers were the best looking flowers and I feel like every girl I know loves pink flowers, therefore leading to me taking this photo. I added the other plants in the back that didn’t look as good to make the flowers I wanted to look good, look even better. The green plants make these flowers pop just a little bit more.
This is something on campus I never noticed before, these little kids bunched covering one side of their chest. In my opinion it looks cool, and didn’t know what it meant, which made me want to take the photo even more. They look like they’re afraid of something or hiding from someone, it’s a very weird statue to me.
This was one of the buildings in the center of campus right behind the Father Marquette statue. I took the photo like this because it only got the outline of the house, the sun was in the way making the photo really dark. The came out really nice to me, highlighting the sky and the environment around it. The purpose of this one was to take a photo of something familiar from a different angle.
This photo reminds me of home because I live in downtown Toronto, Canada. The public transit and the median in the road looked just like what we have back home. I felt like I was catching the bus and going somewhere familiar. The numbers on the bus are also the same, which hit it home for me.
This was one of my close up photos. The two different colors on the flowers were visually pleasing, the fact that my camera got the quality that it got made it even better. I like how everything else in the back is blurred out while the main focus of the photo is one specific stem of a plant.
This represents a time capsule to me because of the date and how far back this building has gone before any of the students on campus were alive. This represents a time where there was students just like us coming in and out of this building or walking past it. The amount of interactions, activities and lesson plans that took place in this building are not here today, but in some way will last forever; for as long as this building stands.
I love this photo for the contrasting textures, because there’s solid rock, then grass, and stone tile. The way these textures were put together are so unique, something I’ve never seen before. That’s why I took the photo of it. The leaves add something special to it because it represents the authenticity of the photo, the current environment being taken place and the diversity of nature.
This is something that represents what I learned today. I learned that darkness in photo’s are not bad, if used right, it can contribute to something else standing out in your picture. The green grass and trees are popping out because of the dark space I have before it, I added the bench in the photo to give the photo some personality. I didn’t want people in this one, this photo was strictly trying to highlight nature.
I payed attention for a minute and then took a photo. I noticed water dropping on the leaves of the plants I tried to capture this in my picture, but the droplets were moving so unpredictably I couldn’t get it. I noticed the red in the plants which looked like some type of berries growing on them that I didn’t notice before.
This is my wild card. A picture of where our scavenger hunt started, I told Father Marquette to do his best pose for me as I took a selfie of us together and this is what he came up with. I don’t think he had his picture taken in a couple hundred years, so that explains the awkward pose. All jokes aside, I took the photo like this because it looks like I caught him looking off, or as a off guard picture and he looks like he’s about to slap me for taking his photo without permission.
