Inconsequential Data Viz Ramblings

Well first of all, I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this. My hope is that this will be first in a series of posts that chronicles my journey further into the world of data visualization. I have been working in the data visualization field for quite some time now but as I become further entrenched in the industry, I find myself more interested in producing data visualizations that may not apply directly to my job.

I am continually amazed by how combining beautiful graphics with data produces such an effective storytelling tool. This tool can certainly help businesses but there is something to be said for producing a viz that provides no immediate quantifiable value. It is my belief that visualizations of this type can inspire creativity and give a perspective that otherwise may not have been considered possible. My goal for this blog is to produce visualizations reaching this level of effectiveness — it is to be seen if my goal is attainable ☺.

My background so far has been in using QlikView to produce visualizations but as a learning experience for myself, in addition to the free nature of the product, my plan is to use Tableau Public to produce the majority of my visualizations for this blog. This post will serve as a pure introduction to the blog with subsequent posts (hopefully around one per month) focusing on a specific topic.

Thank you and welcome!
