Well, it is and it isn’t, you know? You’re completely right that global scale is something human editors can’t really manage. Facebook’s algorithm is probably the closest thing to this. Still, everyone complains because their thing, which is obviously the most important, never shows up.

What I’m advocating for the idea that, if you’re going to have humans in the mix, let them do human things — give them the tools to create an schedule content within the system. If all they’re doing is arranging stuff, they really should just be using an algorithm.
