Platonic and Archimedean Solids (Wooden Books Gift Book) by Daud Sutton

A geometric explanation, one dimension at a time.

Review

The flow of this book allows readers to progress through shapes and solid in a structured, logical way. The part at the end of the book allows patterns analysis and “flat to fat” construction. A slightly more expansive version of this book was published by the same editor, under the title of Quadrivium: The Four Classical Liberal Arts of Number, Geometry, Music, & Cosmology (Wooden Books).

Inspired Applications

In the early phases of a design project for empowering young adults with autism, I experimented with different shapes that could hold information on each phase. The prototype evolved to something more practical and portable, but being able to built it with magnetic tiles helped me quickly test out the “feel” of the object.
