Oscar-Nominee Baldwin Li Announced as MHeFF24 Film Review Panellist

Oscar® and BAFTA-nominated filmmaker Baldwin Li will be joining The Manchester Health Film Festival as a Film Review Panellist, using his extensive industry knowledge to determine the festival’s 2024 category winners.
After studying English at Balliol College, Oxford University, Baldwin went on to work at Granada Studios as a sound engineer and cameraman. Upon leaving Granada Studios in 2006, Li founded his production company Honlodge Productions.
Through Honlodge Productions, Baldwin found himself developing a variety of different projects, most notably the Oscar® and BAFTA-nominated short film The Voorman Problem starring Martin Freeman in 2011, which was screened at over 100 festivals worldwide, winning numerous awards. His determination to create then led to the production of 2017 Morrissey biopic England is Mine starring Jodie Comer and Jack Lowden. Since the release of England is Mine, Baldwin has continued to direct and produce numerous films, with more projects in the pipeline.
MHeFF24 serves to be the first EVER Manchester-based, city-wide Film Festival that brings together outstanding creative talents, health professionals and the public to discuss health through film. Encouraging health discourse through cinema, for people of all ages.
When asked about his involvement in the MHeFF, Baldwin stated ‘I’m excited to be involved in the inaugural Manchester Health Film Festival. It’s great to see a film festival focusing on the topic of health, and promoting films about physical and/or mental health. Film is such a powerful medium for highlighting certain topics and I’m looking forward to seeing how the selected films deal with the subject of health.’
Baldwin further elaborated on his relationship with health and its relation to the wider film industry, explaining ‘I am also glad that in recent years, there has been more discussion in the film industry about how we look after the health of both ourselves and others, and how we can achieve healthier working environments for everyone involved.’
The Manchester Health Film Festival will screen a variety of health-related films focusing on a plethora of different conditions, whilst hosting Q&A’s with filmmakers such as Baldwin. The event will take place on the 23rd of November 2024 at Odeon Great Northern, Manchester.
