In Pursuit of Happiness

If you are struggling to find the reason for your existence, you are not alone. You are part of a cohort spread across the world. We are constantly in a state of war with ourselves. The dichotomy between living your life to the fullest today versus struggling today for a bigger achievement tomorrow is the most piquant of thoughts that plague our mind.
Hailing from India, I have seen many a friend cross seven seas to find better opportunities which will lead to happiness. The change is never easy, but one that is necessary. Their parents have struggled all their life and approve their child’s migration for salvation. It’s difficult for me to understand that salvation which deprives them of their time under the sun with their most loved ones after a life of hardship. I don’t really know what transpires in the journey, but yes, the world around will change- for good or bad -not even time can tell. Only that friend who has taken the journey, earning lots of dough, will tell you whether he has found happiness.
But here you are with your parents having a time of your life. But don’t you ask yourself — What does a life without struggle mean? Are you happy with what you have achieved in life? Your mind is muddled with thoughts that question your purpose of existence.
Perhaps, real meaning will only come from great intent and working towards it. No matter what your qualification or job is- you will have a sphere of influence. Some greats will break the surface of the sphere to go beyond. Sometimes the only way we can be truly happy is by suffering. But a lot of people do suffer, sometimes caught in the vicious circle of their own desires. We need to break shackles and believe we can truly make a difference to scores if not crores of people out there. Only then, this pursuit will end.
