Citing indifference as the cause for the social pathologies seems oversimplified. At least the Americans I see and as one myself, people are not indifferent, we are deeply hurt. 8 years of Obama let us get complacent in terms of social justice (which is a compliment), we never could have fathomed such a swift, venomous return to nationally endorsed hatred. However, what I have seen is a huge uprising in activism and political engagement reflecting a much more diverse America that is beginning to collapse, once and for all, the white supremacy version of America.
It reminds me of a Beatles song. ‘You say you got a real solution, well you know, we’d all love to see the plan.’
When Trump “won” the presidency, no one was indifferent. Most of us just got to work.
I think this game is still a little early to call. The new America has only just begun.
