THE DOMS

(Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)

The anatomy terminology of a condition that is an effect on muscle tissue every day on the human body. It’s a delayed soreness that is created once muscle tissue is broken ( micro torn).

It can take between 48–72 hours to recover from this condition, i will explain later on in scientific anatomy form and if an injury occurs, how to identify it.

The DOMS can occur when your training at the gym or when your at work, when your digging dirt in the back yard or moving furniture around the house. It’s a combination of soreness and stiffness in the muscle a feeling of unable to do a common job that is usually common everyday.

Scientifically speaking the delayed onset muscle soreness occurs when the body is resting and blood flow reaches the Sarcomere (The basic unit of muscle). What happens next is the myofibers are than filled with blood in the torn micro area and regenerated (healing). The muscle’s stick together but are combined into small knots not smooth lines, hence why you need to stretch every day until the muscle feels completely relaxed.

How to identify a DOMS is becoming an injury?

Injury can occur when the muscle is not stretched enough or to its full capacity in length. What is happening is once you train a certain body part you progressively tighten and twist the tissue (imagine a wet towel that is continuously twisted until it snaps) and it does take time before it actually breaks, the bodies mechanism to hold such tight areas in the body is phenomenal but the muscle itself can only hold on to each attachment for so long. The body will give you signals to determine if their is an injury that has being prolong for some time or if its acute and can be treated quickly, a sudden sharp pain or discomfort in certain areas will occur, lifting objects that were once easy to lift feel impossible, weakness in a certain area.

These are just some prime examples of a possible injury.
