Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs.

Egyptian hieroglyphs were the formal writing system used in Ancient Egypt. Hieroglyphic script was one of the writing systems used to represent their language. This script was used for religious literature on papyrus and wood. The word Hieroglyph comes from Greek. Hieros means ‘sacred (Holy)’ and Glypho means ‘engrave (Writing)’. In the ancient Egyptian language, hieroglyphs were called “Medu Netjer”, It means that ‘The Gods’ Words’. This script was composed of three basic types of signs: logograms, representing words; phonograms, representing sounds; and determinatives, placed at the end of the word to help clarify its meaning. The time period was 3200 BC to AD 400.
