When in Tallinn try beetroot pesto if you have a chance.

Planning to visit Tallinn anytime soon? I’ve prepared 3, as my friend would call it “hipster”, places to enjoy the best lunch experience in the town. Without further ado let me introduce you the first and my personal favorite —Sfäär.

1. Sfäär

To start with it is not entirely a cafe or a restaurant. It’s an exclusive Boutique aka Bureau with build in dinning facilities. And believe me the food here is as damn good as the clothes in the shop. Also, these guys have a great selection of some good nordic beers to go with the minced lamb patty you have to try once here. It’s a house special and definitely worth trying. Those of you familiar with Y Bar in Minsk, Belarus may find this place very similar for its relaxed atmosphere.

To try:

  • SfääR’s “toast skagen” with prawns, lemon mayonnaise, fish roe and buttery white brea (€8)
  • Minced lamb patty (€13.50)
  • Sfäär’s special seafood soup made from Estonian freshwater fish and blue mussels (€7.50)

Address: Mere pst 6, Tallinn, Estonia

2. F-Hoone

Absolutely brilliant people, food and atmosphere hidden away from center and tourists in the soviet industrial area F-Hoone is a must eat place in Tallinn. Flawless and natural service and a loft style makes this place good for meeting friends, colleagues, your second half or simple chit-chat with bartender what I successfully did. I also felt a hint of art in the air which makes eating here somewhat special. And my god this beetroot pesto made me crazy.

To try:

  • Spicy coconut soup mushrooms and shrimps (€3.50)
  • Grilled goat cheese with fig jam and dark beetroot pesto (€5.40)
  • Furger. Dark bread burger with Aberdeen-Angus veal cutlet (€8.90)

Address: Telliskivi 60 A, 10412 Tallinn, Estonia

3. Kamahouse Köök

Did you know there is a great story behind any decent place if you ask? Same applies to Kamahouseh Köök, the place used to be owned by a couple of artists who inspired their visitors to create art while eating. It turned out into studio/bistro and the atmosphere is still there when you come for a lunch. Make sure you have a glass of free cucumber water before getting down to the most delicious spicy tomato soup you can have in Tallinn.

Sorry, no food pics for this one, was too hungry and too busy eating.

To try:

  • Tomato soup — out of this world
  • A wild boar stew

Address: Kopli 25, 10412 Tallinn, Estonia

3. Bonus place: Pööbel

After all these super yummy places praised above you might be asking yourself where do I find a proper bar in Tallinn to spend my evening with beer and snacks. Ask no more, go straight to Pööbel and enjoy one of the best bars in town always loved and filled by locals. Make sure you book your spot in advance. I mean it.

Address: Toompuiestee 16, 10137 Tallinn, Estonia
