I actually really like Elizabeth Warren. And my family are Southern (well, Texan) whites who claim Native American ancestry — I’m pretty fond of them as well. I don’t like Confederate nostalgia or Southern white exceptionalism, though, and my point is that the ubiquity of Cherokee heritage claims is rooted in those ideological traditions.

I’m sad to hear that you find my point about Southern racism as related to Cherokee identification “completely lost.” I encourage you to read Gregory Smithers’ article at Slate for more context — maybe he says it better than I do.
