It’s so refreshing to read this because I feel the same way. I haven’t owned a tv in 4 years. I have a 2 year old son and it’s really important to me that he never sees his dad or I mindlessly watching tv. We choose to DO things together and we believe that watching tv isn’t DOING something together. We choose to be productive with our time.
This is also an issue of consumerism. Watching tv, you’re forced to sit through commercials, or flip around until your show is back on — even watching something on dvr, your show is interrupted by fast-forwarding through it. I don’t want to be forced to watch advertisements about products that I DONT NEED. I know you get that.
A coworker recently found out I don’t own a tv and was aghast. He said “… what do you DO??” I laughed. I couldn’t stop laughing!
Anyway, thanks for writing this. It’s nice to know there are people like you out there. We are few and far between.
