Start Here… What Does “Meah Culpa” Even Mean?
First of all my name is Meah, pronounced just like Leah, but with an M instead of an L. Pretty sweet (or so people tell me). Personally, I like it and will answer to no other name with the exception of “Mommy,” “Mee-yah,” “Meah-me-ight,” and a few other names bestowed upon me by my friends, family, and husband over the years.
I’ve just recently learned that my name can also be a play on words when combined with the term “culpa”… thereby creating “Meah Culpa.”
“Mea Culpa” is a Latin term translated as “through my fault.” It is an admission that one has done wrong. Well, I do plenty of things wrong! Maybe you’re a Christian and maybe you’re not, but either way, I’m pretty sure you can find it in yourself to believe that not one of us is without fault.
But, here’s the kicker. While I’m willing to confess I’ve done wrong, I strive for more. I strive to learn from my shortcomings and to do and be better. In fact, in my experience, it’s often when I most colossally mess up that I learn the biggest lessons.
So, I acknowledge my faults and through that acknowledgment, I strive to learn and to grow.
Writing is a wonderful gift to reflect on where I fall short in life and it aids me in seeing how I can use those experiences to learn something and, ultimately, do and be better in the future. We are constantly evolving so why not allow ourselves to evolve into the best versions of ourselves?
So, “Meah Culpa.” Through my faults, may I learn to do and be better. Through my faults, may you find raw stories, a laugh from time to time, and hopefully encouragement that you too can learn through your faults.
Like a phoenix rising from its own ashes, may we all seize the principle of “Mea Culpa,” acknowledge our faults, and rise up better than before.
Thanks for stopping by,
Meah
