I had a similar experience in Japan. I was also working as an English teacher. I thought I might be getting an eye infection, but didn’t want to go to the eye doctor. Finally I couldn’t ignore the weirdness of my eyes and went to what I assumed was an eye doctor (due to the graphic on their sign) a few blocks from my house. My new eye doctor apologized because it had been a few years since she conducted eye exams in English when she had studied at HARVARD, but it went fine and she fixed me right up. Can’t remember exactly how much it cost but not much.
