Long-time business journalist and current ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) anchor Cathy Yang will leave her current job to join telco giant PLDT as the new Group Head of Corporate Communications, the company announced, Thursday (August 6).

According to PLDT, Yang will replace Mon Isberto, another ex- journalist, retiring from the telco giant after 25 years of service. The departure of Yang from ANC came after the House of Representatives denied ANC parent company ABS-CBN bid for a fresh 25-year congressional franchise and the Kapamilya Network begun cutting its workforce to continue its operations.

“We welcome Cathy into the senior Management ranks of PLDT and Smart. Cathy is an excellent communicator and a journalist of unquestioned integrity. Her extensive experience as a financial and media person, here and abroad, will add a new dimension to our communication strategy in articulating and presenting who we are and how we perform. She will bring our era of communication into the digital space. Again, a warm welcome to Cathy,’’ said PLDT President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Manny V.Pangilinan in a press release.

Before joining PLDT, Yang, who rejoined ABS-CBN in 2015 , anchors ANC’s business newscasts Market Edge and Business Nightly and hosted The Boss, when she interviewed business leaders and newsmakers.

‘’I thank my fellow colleagues, who have willfully taken the supreme risk with me of showing up in the newsroom all throughout the lockdown, so we can continue to keep people informed and connected all throughout the pandemic. I thank our voices — the multitude of stakeholders spanning business to government and everyone else in between — who have willingly accepted my invitation for Live video chats, helping connect the dots for us and become the North Star at a time of great uncertainty,’’ said Yang on her Facebook post, announcing her departure from the Kapamilya Network to join PLDT.

Prior to returning to ABS-CBN, Yang worked as Hong Kong-based correspondent for CCTV International, now known as China Global Television Network (CGTN) and Reuters. She is also worked as Tokyo later Hong Kong-based anchor for Bloomberg Television.

On her first stint in ABS-CBN back in 1990s, Yang worked as reporter and co- host of Usapang Business together with Ces Orena-Drilon and David Celdran.

The veteran anchor also won awards internationally on taking home the Best TV Presenter and News Anchor awards at the Asian Television Awards and Asian Academy Awards for her work at ANC and Bloomberg Television.
