Feeling Safe: A Poem
What happened to her will never happen to me
you must have read it, didn’t you?
She dressed inappropriately.
What happened to him will never happen to me,
his investments, they weren’t
the way they ought to be.
My child won’t ever be in such a quandary,
I’m rearing my children perfectly, you see.
This life-threatening condition ain’t never touching me,
every day in the morning I drink herbal tea.
I’m always bright and sunny, nothing can hurt me,
if only she were mindful, she too would be happy.
We’ve always gotten good jobs, me and my family.
those people should work harder to beat their poverty.
The world feels much safer, there’s less anxiety,
when victims can be blamed for all adversities.
