In many projects, people ramp up slowly, finishing up their old obligations before starting. Without having everyone in the same room and focused, the project takes forever to get to speed.
Design Sprints: An Ignition System for Innovation Project Teams
Jared M. Spool

This is exactly what I have experienced in our situation, with many departments, a fair amount of red tape and a lot of responsibilities. We introduced our supershort adaption of GV’s Design Sprint, to get everyone in the same room, and especially to be able to free up enough people in the UX team to diverge. Before, these kind (size) of projects mostly ended up with one UX Designer who had limited room to explore solutions — with the risk of ending up with the first kick at the can being developed. Design Sprint FTW!
