Pocchampally

I knew Pocchampally made beautiful Ikkat sarees. A version of the tie and dye weave that produces brighter versions than Odissa’s ikkats.

Young and old in Pocchampally

I did not know that it was here, in Nalgonda District of Telangana, that the Bhoodan movement was born on April 18, 195. That when Vinoda Bhave asked villagers what could be done for 40 landless families asking for just 80 acres of land, that Vedre Ramchandra Reddy and Pochampalli Gopal Rao the local landlords offered them 250 acres. Rao went on to donate thousands of acres more to landless people, according to wiki.
And since this is where Vinoda Bhave’s land movement of Bhoodan was born, leading to the place being renamed as Bhoodan Pochampally.
