Overthinking has impacted my life in a big way. It has beaten me so hard I can’t imagine anything else would.

I am Aishwarya and from a very small city of Haryana, India. Being from the small city I had big ambitions and dreams. I was good at everything but not best in anything. I was just thinking about everything I could do rather focussing my energy on a single thing and making that best. in my family everyone was telling me that you are so intelligent, you are a rockstar. but inside me, I knew I was nothing because according to me I was not good at anything. I was just OVERTHINKING.

Overthinking about people, about me, about my choices, about my worth has spoiled everything- my relationships, my health, my career, my sense of humour. There was a point of time in my life, I was feeling alone because I have spoiled people’s image in my own mind. Consequences were I did not talk to them for a long period of time. I wasted the precious years of my life by overthinking.

Have you ever thought why do we do Overthinking?

  • Obsessing over what we should say/should have said/did say/didn’t say.
  • Worrying incessantly about who we are and how we are measuring up to the world.
  • Creating fearful what-if scenarios about things that could go wrong for ourselves, loved ones, and the world.
  • Wild, imagined results of our own wild, imagined faults and incompetencies, about past and future too.
  • Fear of Failure or fear of judgement- what if I fail, what others will think about me.
  • Thinking — overthinking — a tumbling chain of worries, vague thoughts, and specific thoughts.

Result are just we start giving up and just stop doing the things, we stop acting. our mind get numb and we cant get over. But still, we have solutions to overcome Overthinking.

What can we do together to overcome OVERTHINKING and what I did?

Let’s Stop waiting for perfection. I just stopped this. And everything just start falling in place. For all of us who are waiting for perfection, we can stop waiting right now. Being ambitious is great but aiming for perfection is unrealistic, impractical, and debilitating. The moment you start thinking “This needs to be perfect” is the moment you need to remind yourself, “Waiting for perfect is never as smart as making progress.”

Change your view of fear. We all are fearful at some point of time in life. But now as you are aware about failures in the past, or you’re fearful of trying or overgeneralizing some other failure, remember that just because things did not work out before does not mean that has to be the outcome every time. Remember, every opportunity is a new beginning, a place to start again.

Accept this, that you are the best. The fear that grounds overthinking is often based in feeling that you aren’t good enough — not smart enough or hardworking enough or dedicated enough. Once you’ve given an effort your best, accept it as such and know that, while success may depend in part on some things you can’t control, you’ve done what you could do.

Last but not the least and most important one. Distract yourself into happiness. Sometimes it’s helpful to have a way to distract yourself with happy, positive, healthy alternatives. Things like meditation, dancing, exercise, learning an instrument, knitting, drawing, and painting can distance you from the issues enough to shut down the over-analysis.

You have your one life Just dont give up in OVERTHINKING. Just start taking Baby Steps. Just start taking Action.
