Beginners Basic Steps to Learn Salsa Dance

We all know Salsa is one of the pleasing dance you can learn ever. Salsa is a form of social dance with great popularity and originated in Puerto Rico and Cuba in 1920. Salsa dance represents a mix of Latin musical genres, but its primary component is Cuban dance music. Salsa is lively, sensual, hot and charming dance that inspire everyone dance crazily. Salsa dancing is facile and quickest to catch up. It takes extremely shorter time to learn basic steps and within a shorter time you would be able to dance Salsa.

To learn Salsa it is requested to wear shoes with flat sole or smooth sole which will help you to turn smoothly in its steps. Ladies can wear shoes with a heel if they wish, although stiletto type heel is not recommended. For Ladies wearing a heel will help in swing their hips a little which adds to the feel of dance. A Guy can wear shoes which they wear over a suit.

Now let’s start learning salsa dance.

The music of Salsa is phrased in counts of 8. All the steps will fit into count of 8. Beside this, 2 of the counts come with pauses. You will dance on counts of 1,2,3, then pause of 4, and continue to dance on 5,6,7, counts and pause on 8.

Salsa Forward and Backward Step:

Position: Traditionally in Salsa dance man is leader and Woman is follower. The leader takes followers right hand in his left and places his right hand on followers left shoulder. The follower keeps her left hand on leader’s right shoulder.

Posture: When dancing always keep your spine straight, chin up and shoulders back. Always look up and towards your partner.

Move your hips: In the Salsa all the movements comes from the hips, so keep your hips loose. Along with moving your foot, slightly do movement of hips also. When you move your right foot out, move your right hip out a bit, too.

Basic moves for Leader:

· Start with a both feet together.

· On 1st beat, step forward with left foot.

· On 2nd beat, rock back on right foot.

· On 3rd beat, step back with left foot.

· On 4th beat, hold the beat and and do not take any steps.

· On the 5th beat, step back with right foot.

· On the 6th beat, rock forward on left foot.

· On the 7th beat, step forward with right foot.

· On the 8th beat, hold the beat.

Basic moves for Follower:

· Start with both feet together.

· On the 1st beat, step back with right foot.

· On the 2nd beat, rock forward on left foot.

· On the 3rd beat, step forward with right foot.

· On the 4th beat, hold the beat and do not take any steps.

· On the 5th beat, step forward with left foot.

· On the 6th beat, rock back with on right foot.

· On the 7th beat, step back with left foot.

· On the 8th beat, hold the beat and do not take any step.
