Despite what people claim, it is unlikely that Salieri ever had anything to do with Mozart’s early death. It is proven that Mozart had a repeated history of illnesses throughout his life. He was known as a sickly child, but nevertheless he was very talented, and he played for wealthy aristocrats all over Europe. It has also been established that there was a major sickness spreading throughout Europe at the time of Mozart’s death, and because of this fact, this is the first reason I believe that Salieri never killed Mozart.
Many people suspect that Mozart and Salieri were bitter enemies. But this claim couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, Salieri greatly supported Mozart’s work and they were very close friends. Many people are led to believe that Salieri killed Mozart because years after Mozart’s death a play written by Alexander Pushkin called “Mozart and Salieri,” featured a zealous Salieri who poisons Mozart.” This play is unrealistic, and it is unfortunate that it led to the downfall of Antonio Salieri.
