I’m Joining Octane AI to Help Build the Future of Bots

I‘m excited to share that today is my first day at General Catalyst-backed Octane AI as Head of Product.

Octane AI launched on November 2nd (CNN, TechCrunch, VentureBeat) with the mission of making bots (aka chatbots) easy to build and accessible for everyone. Their early launch partners include 50 Cent, Aerosmith, KISS, Magic Mike, and SPiN with Facebook Messenger bots. From the moment I tried the beta of the platform, I felt the potential of this idea and this business and I knew I had to be a part of it.

If you don’t know what a bot is, read The Complete Beginner’s Guide to Chatbots by Octane AI’s CEO Matt Schlicht or watch the video at the end of this article.

First, a thank you to the amazing RebelMouse team

As always, starting somewhere new is bittersweet. I have to take a moment to thank the amazing team at RebelMouse. The past four-and-a-half years have been the best of my career. The passion, talent and drive of the people I worked with at RebelMouse will stay with me forever and I will miss making magic with them.

I worked with a remote team for the first time and recognized the joy and efficiency of being able to work with someone talented, no matter their location. I’m excited to say Octane AI continues in that tradition.

The Wild West of Bots

I remember when businesses just started joining Facebook and there was a question of whether this “social media thing” would be worth it. Whether it would matter to the bottom line. Now I see the same conversations going on about bots, yet today more people use messaging platforms than social networks. To me, this indicates a tremendous opportunity.

If your audience is on messenger platforms, then you should be too. I believe that anyone with a message, a cause or a business should be looking into their messenger strategy. At Octane AI, we hope to help them do that.

The Octane Team

A big reason I decided to join is the stellar Octane AI founding team. I’ve known Ben Parr, CMO and Cofounder of Octane AI, since 2010 when I was at Klout in SF and he was co-editor at Mashable. I have incredible respect not just for his sense of marketing and captivating audiences, but also for his ability to forecast how an industry will evolve. I have met CEO Matt Schlicht (formerly product at Ustream and Y Combinator alum) and CTO Leif K-Brooks (founder of chat platform Omegle) more recently, but I’ve been equally impressed with them. I am so excited to join them on their mission.
