We’re all virtually connected on a worldwide computer network called the internet. Most people refer as going online as “the internet”, but it’s merely a network. You can think of the internet like a telephone network. It essentially transmits information through radio waves by pulses of light and satellite links.

The internet allows users to use programs such as internet browsers (Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.), instant messaging applications, file sharing, downloading music, etc.

This network has one job, to move data from one place to another.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The way that the internet transmits data is like a postal service, it sends the data from one place to another, like how mail is sent from a post office to another. There are different devices that you can access the internet with, such as: tables, phones, laptops/PCs etc. These devices allow you to search internet browsers and download music and applications.

ESSENTIAL PARTS OF THE INTERNET

A server is basically an electronic filing cabinet that stores information and passes it on when requested. A client is requests and receives information. And the thing that connects the internet and your devices is a router.

STAYING SAFE

In this day and age, there are malicious people out there called hackers that want your personal information to use for their own benefits. Due to these hackers, it makes cyber security vital. Remember to always make your passwords very unique so that it would be hard to guess and to never give out your personal information when asked. Stay away from fishy emails and websites that may put a virus (a malicious program that takes your personal information from your computer) on your computer.
