Syncopation
A poem on the moment before you die.
Welcome to a new era of poetry! Tired of writing about unrequited love, I am changing direction for now. Expect deeper and darker topics in the poems to come….
There’s always an ever-after, you say.
Even now!
It’s forming darkly on the horizon if you watch close enough.
And, It feels safe to listen to you through the screen door.
Or, rather, through the separation of space and time that
Allow
Me to feel something for you;
Even if right now it feels like a never-ending ledge to jump from.
But what are we, if not God’s colossal mistakes?
And I’m not sure if it’s empathy or-
Maybe it’s just my own reflection
But it casts a shadow on how loathsome you are.
Still, my mind never seems to drift far
From that ledge
And the walls that were meant to keep
The devil in the rafters.
Do you think Lucifer smiled as he fell?
