Salt and Light

When you think of a Christian, what comes to mind? Is it heaven? Is it Jesus? Or is it a man holding up a sign that reads God Hates Fags?

That image, the one of a man holding a sign saying God Hates a specific group of people infuriated me to the point of tears. If it communicates anything it is that God fears, God fears people, God fears change, God fears something new and different. But, God does now fear anything. Man, on the other hand, fears everything he does not understand.

HP Lovecraft said it best when he wrote:

-The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.-

I will tell you now, God does not hate or fear homosexuality. God does not hate or fear anyone. Christianity has never been, and never will be based on exclusion. It is rooted in being made new. New in Christ, new in your mind, new in who you are. Jesus died on the cross to renew us so that we could be saved.

Come as you are. There is nothing too grave, nothing too bad, no past so vile that can keep you from becoming better. Jesus said you are salt and light. In you there is the opportunity to season life and create a thirst. In you there is the opportunity to be a light to someone else, a guide in their life even if you’re figuring it out yourself.

Be Salt. Be light.
