I completely agree with the Green Mile Coffey-as-Jesus analysis, right down to the wrongly condemned man allowing himself to be “crucified.” He needs to be “the other” as compared to the system that accuses him — Jews vs. Romans = Black vs. White.

The Tom Hanks character is a Roman guard, (later named St. Longinus), who later testifies to JC’s being the son of God.
