I used to be in archaeology, which is some science and a lot of conjecture. I got out of it because there was so little free inquiry, so much ass kissing, and so great a necessity to toe the party line (in this case not a political party but a powerful academic one) that I decided I couldn’t stomach earning my living that way.

That was a long time ago, and it was Etruscan archaeology. I can’t speak regarding the profession today or other branches of the field.

So I hear you. I am all for open debate and not shutting anyone down.

As for labeling groups, sure enough. But in my lifetime, and I am no spring chicken, I have never heard an entire class of people labeled “enemies of the American people” by anyone that I recall, certainly not by anyone with any real power.
