*Raises hand* Yes, I do. I can only explain my own behavior, so I will stick to that.
I don’t usually write with a publication in mind, unless it’s in response to a prompt. I write because an idea comes to me. Sometimes the resulting style or subject matter seems fitting for a particular publication. If so, I will submit it. If not, I just throw it up under my own name.
Some pieces linger there, and some are discovered, sometimes by a publication I was unaware of. Other times the request comes from a publication I didn’t think would be interested. I have learned a lot about the interests of publications through this trial and error method.
What I like about being published by a variety of sources is the contact that creates with diverse readerships.
