The Amish are amazing. My mother met her Amish lady friends through needing to find someone who could finish my great grandmother’s unfinished quilts.

They were pretty funny when they would talk about all the strictures of their lifestyle.

One cold winter day, I was wearing a sheepskin coat. They were admiring it, saying how warm it looked. I said, “You have sheep. Why not make sheepskin coats for yourselves?”

They laughed inside their dinky black sweaters and said, “That would be too easy.”
