14-year-old girl murders mom : Case of Carly Gregg
On September 20th, Carly Gregg was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole when the jury found her guilty of murdering her mother, shooting her stepfather, and inviting a friend to see the bodies.
Carly Gregg was just 14 when she was charged with murder, attempted murder, and tampering with evidence for murdering her mother Ashley Smylie, and shooting her stepfather Heath Smylie. The jury took approximately 2 hours before finding her guilty on all counts.
On March 19, Greg shot her mother in the neck killing her. Then she texted her friend saying that there was an emergency and she needed her to come over. When she got there , Greg asked her if she had ever seen a dead body and when she said no, Greg proceeded to show Ashley’s dead body. Then Greg told her friend to wait outside as her stepfather was about to come home. So her friend proceeded to wait outside.
When Heath arrived , Greg’s friend heard three gunshots before she ran out of her house. Heath told the police that he was able to wrestle the gun away from his stepdaughter. Approximately half a mile away Greg was taken into custody.
The prosecutors had offered Greg a plea agreement, but it was turned down by her as she would be sent to prison for 40 years. Greg’s defense tried to argue she was…
