WITx #Connect -Ivana Irene, a true inspiration to all those GHC aspirants.
Summing up the interview done by Bhairavi Shah, a WIT Cohort 1 Participant, with Ivana Irene.
Ivana Irene is an undergraduate student at the University of Indonesia studying Computer Science. She is a 2018 GHC scholar, who is interested especially in front-end web development. She was so keen and determined in getting selected for GHC scholarship that she had started preparing for the application a year before!
She had anticipated to meet thousands of girls there, sharing the same interests with her. GHC eventually turned out to be bigger than what she had expected. There were a lot of talks that one could attend in GHC that she felt one should get to go there more than once!
The application stage:
GHC has this resume database where everyone attending or rather not actually attending could submit their resumes. All the sponsors of GHC will have access to the submitted resumes. She submitted her resume to their database and within a month or so she got interview invitations from both Microsoft and Facebook!
GHC gifts a whole new level of chance that International students get equal opportunities to internships. Creating resumes that standout and answering wisely to essay questions in the application stage are a crucial part of getting selected. Moreover being involved in tech-based organizations and taking up leadership plays a vital role.
Some tips she gave for GHC aspirants include:
- Never feel down.
- Just try!
- Take your time and build your resume.
- The preparations should not be stopped even if you get selected because this would be your greatest chance in getting internships and full-time jobs in those big dream companies that you would aspire to work.
