Q & A
Mariam Goguichvili is a freshman at Georgia College, majoring in Marketing. With the intentions of going to a bigger school, she soon became overwhelmed and realized that the small, home-town feel was what she needed. She shares her dream jobs as well as a reoccurring “nightmare.” Mariam is unsure of where her life will take her, but she is up for the challenge.
Q: Describe yourself in three words.
A: Are you going to judge me? Outgoing, positive… probably outspoken.
Q: Why did you choose to attend Georgia College, and was it always where you wanted to go?
A: First of all, no it wasn’t where I wanted to go. I was enrolled at The University of Tennessee, I had a roommate and had already paid my deposit and I hadn’t even toured. Then I went and toured and I hated it. I had an anxiety attack and I was like this is too big, this is overwhelming. So then I just kind of went for my second choice, which was Georgia College, but now I’m glad I’m here.
Q: What is your major and why?
A: So, I’m a marketing major right now. I’ve always liked business and I like people. I think marketing is pretty broad and I can do a bunch of different stuff with it and I like working with social media and I like working with different brands and companies. I think that’d be really cool.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: Dream job. Okay, I have a bunch, I have realistic ones and then I have ones I want but aren’t gonna happen. Realistically, with marketing, my dream job would be to work for a really creative company like BuzzFeed, Google or YouTube and do their social media and ad campaigns for them. Even Coke, that’d be so cool or Chick-fil-A, but that's not really creative. Coke does a bunch of creative stuff, so to work for a creative company and do all of their social media and ad campaigns. I want to be the person that goes and speaks for them, represents their brand, be the face of their company, meet people and stuff like that.
My other dream job, I’m not going to end up doing… I don’t know, I don’t know what's in the cards. If you’ve ever watched Criminal Minds, be in the BAU, Behavioral Analyst Unit…I think that’s it and be a criminal psychologist and get to be in the FBI and bust people. Well, not bust people, their title is like a behavior analyst. They look at all of the psychopaths and be like “Oh, this is why he is the way he is.” I’ve always been obsessed with crime.
But also, I don't want my job to be my life. I want my job and then my life outside of my job. I want to like what I’m doing, but I don't want it to be all I do. I feel like if you have a job like that you don't have a choice, it has to be everything that you do.
Q: What is the best advice someone has ever given to you?
A: Um, I think, I’ve probably gotten a lot of advice but the one that I remember the most is probably just to be like… This is gonna sound cringy…
It literally is to just be myself, like I guess in every situation.
Like when I went through rush, if you’re just faking who you are and trying to fit this mold that you think something is, you’re not ever going to be satisfied where you are.
So, like when people who rush, they’re fake and saying what they think people want to hear, you end up in this sorority and you’re like “Oh my God, I don’t feel like myself.” If you’re not yourself, you’re going to end up in the wrong place and you’re not ever going to be satisfied. Even with friends, if you are fake around a group of people, why would you want to be around a group of people that think you are not yourself.
Q: Who is your favorite person in the world?
A: Um, they’re not my family member which I guess is weird, but my favorite person, I don't really know what title she holds, she's like a best friend, but she’s like 30 years old, so I guess like a mentor. Like a second mom type of figure, she is like my best friend, even though she’s older, she’s like me in an older life. We get along so well. We talk on the phone like every night. I love my mom and we have a great relationship… She didn’t go to college in America, she doesn’t understand, and she didn’t go to high-school. I could never go to her and be like “This is happening,” or I could and she would be like “Yeah, I get that,” but, she couldn’t give me advice. So, Brittany has been through everything that I’m going through and just helps me a lot.

Q: If you could have dinner with five people past, present, living or dead, who would it be and why?
A: Five people, that's a lot. Amy Winehouse, love her. I’m trying to make them not all musical. Michael Jackson for sure, love MJ. Obama, I love Obama, like I just want to talk to him. Justin Bieber, like I know that's cringy, but he’s a legend like I would just want to talk to him, like friends.
I think he has a great mind.
There are so many people that you can meet, like historical. I want to meet God. I’d want to ask him questions, like “Can you explain?” Yeah, that’s a good five.
Q: What is the most memorable dream you’ve had?
A: I really struggle remembering dreams. I know I have a crazy dream…Oh, I know! It is crazy, it’s the craziest story I tell my friends, they think it’s insane. I told my mom and she was like “Do you want to get therapy?” It’s not bad but it’s weird, like paranormal. So every year, on my birthday. It’s weird because it happens on my birthday, every year, like I know it’s coming. May 9th, or May 8th, I guess, I’ll go to bed and wake up on my birthday. Like I swear it means something. It’s actually really scary.
My biggest fear is home invasion or getting kidnapped. It’s so stupid, but I was always home alone as a kid and was paranoid that someone was living in our house or that someone was going to take me. Every year that I can remember, I have this dream. I’m home alone, I come downstairs and the door is wide open and I’m looking at the door trying to remember did I leave it open or not. Ten huge cars pull in to my driveway, it’s broad daylight, and these huge men get out of their car and they start running. I slam the door. Before I can even lock it, they’re at the door and I start running upstairs and I go into this attic. I’m sitting quietly in this attic and the door opens, and I wake up. Every. Single. Year. On my birthday. So, that’s the most memorable dream.
One year I didn’t go to bed. I stayed up all night because I didn’t want to have this dream. So May 9th I’ll let you know.
Q: If you could live forever, would you rather stay one age forever or get older?
A: That’s actually a good question. Yes, I would definitely stay one age. When I think about getting old, that’s a nightmare for me, that’s like sad. I wouldn't want to live forever but if I did I wouldn't want to be old. Forever young! I’d be like 25, if I had a happy family, a good job, I feel like you would just not get bored.
Q: How many states and countries have you been to?
A: I don’t know, probably like 15 states, I haven’t been to that many. I go to the same states over again. Country-wise I’ve been out of the country like a million times because my family lives in another country. I’ve been to probably like six or seven countries.

Q: Which would you go back to and not go back to? Why?
A: I don’t think I’d go back to Turkey. I was just weird vibes. I love the country where my parents are from, Georgia. It’s full of poverty and not a good place to just vacation, but it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world, nature-wise. I haven’t gotten the chance to go and explore, because all of my grandparents are old and no one would be able to take me and show me all of these places. I want to go back and do all this stuff on my own or with someone that can actually show me. I feel like I would appreciate it more and like it more if I saw more of it. So, I would definitely go back there
Q: What piece of entertainment do you wish you could erase from your mind so that you could experience for the first time again?
A: You’re gonna cringe again. Probably a musical. I used to go to The Fox all of the time. I remember I would walk out of there feeling so joyful and happy. You feel this really big sense of happiness. I would totally want to feel that again. Not knowing what a musical is and then going to a musical for the first time in your life, that would be amazing.
Q: What city would you most like to live in?
A: Can I say state? Probably Colorado. It’s like my dream. Like Boulder, Colorado, just wake up every morning and see these huge mountains.
Q: What are you absolutely determined to do?
A: Live in Colorado. I just kinda want my life to start. I want to have a good job and be really happy and not be the person that wakes up and says “Ugh I have to go to work.” I would just love to go to my job every day, love it and be good at it, live in the place where I want to live and have the house I want to have. I just want my life to take off. Probably just a job, a good job that I am happy with.
