For the Days You Feel Unmotivated

It’s day 26 of my 30 day blog challenge. I started off the morning strong with a solid run, opened up my laptop promptly at 9am and typed in my biggest to-do task: blog.

It’s now 12:53 and I’ve been sitting here for 4 hours with a blank screen in front of me.

Let’s just say this rainy day has gotten the best of me. Are you ever just in a mood where you don’t want to do… anything? Me, too. Today is one of those.

What have I managed to do instead?

Ate an omelet, made coffee and ate a little more than a fair share of carrot cake (didn’t quite master the three bite rule today).

Browsed Indeed job listings and grad school programs, pondering what to do with my life next year

Checked social media numerous times, created a workout program outline, and prepared a few email drafts that haven’t been sent

Listened to 5 or so podcasts, watched a few motivational videos and read several articles, searching for a source of inspiration

Browsed several webpages to find the best deals in online shopping

Not without checking social media several times (again), sending a few texts here and there, and returning to the fridge to continue procrastinating

So just about every possible procrastination trick and then some…

But finished my single biggest task? That blog?

Nope.

Point intended? It has been a slow day, but that doesn’t mean it’s a skipped day. I’m not backing down. I could cop out and post another workout, another recipe, or nothing at all, but today I’ve just decided to start writing and show up totally transparent.

Off days — they happen to everyone, even personal trainers, procrastination experts, self-improvement gurus and those pegged as “the world’s most successful people.”

Some days we wake up and crush it. Other days we get side-tracked basking in our own overwhelm and eat a little too much carrot cake. The bottom line is, it’s just one day. I’m not letting one off day define my week. It’s right back on it tomorrow for a post on Workout Wednesday!

Just remember, something always beats nothing. Every day might not be so pretty, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find something to appreciate and something to learn from it.
