So in the last blog, we read about how communication has evolved from prehistoric times all the way to the invention of the telephone. In this blog, we’ll cover all the innovations since and how technology and social media have completely changed the way we communicate with others.

After the telephone, the biggest change in communication came in the form of the television. The television is the first medium that allowed people to reach a massive audience while adding a crucial communication aspect that was missing earlier, visuals. The ability to view a cricket match and not just hear the commentary changed the entire way humans communicate with one another. Soon, the television had advancements as well, moving from only black and white content to colour and increasing in screen size while reducing the depth and bezels over time.

The biggest change for not only the way we humans communicate but also our way of living came with the invention of the ‘Internet’. Soon, through the internet, multiple new mediums of communicating were formed and we were welcomed into the digital age.

The e-mail was the first major development and it completely revolutionized business communication. Not only was it faster than using post, but it was also faster and in the long run, cheaper too. Businesses started expanding geographically as they could now communicate with people in faraway places more effectively. Soon, the e-mail lead to globalization and the digital transformation began.

The telephones transformed into smartphones and now, with the combination of the internet and the smartphones, a new age of communication dawned upon us.

Smartphones allowed us to not only call a person from anywhere & anytime but also gave multiple other options to communicate with them. You could send them an e-mail or a text message (a casual e-mail)

With the increasing rise of the internet, new mediums of communication were formed and soon the social media was created. Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Whatsapp, etc. became our lifeline.

Social media changed radically changed the way we communicate with others. Soon, words became shorter (lol, jk) but the number of hours spent on the internet increased.

Social media led to new ways in which people could express their feelings and cover-up for the loss of communicating feelings due to the lack of face-to-face communication, emojis were soon formed. They helped people express their feelings in the digital world way better than just words.

One invention lead to another and now our time on social media is full of emojis, memes, and GIFs. Who knows what the future holds?
