A new progress has been made to fight against lung cancer!
Lung cancer has long been a top concern in medical research. These days, a novel finding has given new hope for the treatment of it.
Scientists have pointed out that lung cancer, in some sense, is the dysregulation of apoptosis. Fortunately, proteins from the Bc1-2 family can regulate the apoptosis. However, Bax, one of the regulators, is not always that stable and is prone to lose its killer function, which would lead to lung tumor development. So, based on this point, researchers assumed that Bax might be part of the cure.
The study had been conducted with the help of virtual screening, that is, a process where one can run through a computer program all the possible combination of molecules which could bind with the Bax proteins to find the best combination. The researchers had tried over 10 million molecules and they found the right one. Tested in mice, it has shown that this Bax-activating small molecule compound can on the one hand kill the lung cancer cells and on the other hand inhibit the growth of lung cancer tumors.
The study had also shown that it is possible to identify molecules capable of activating Bax and in turn induce apoptosis. Besides, it is hopeful that this could be applied in other types of cancers.
Biomart offers a wide range of products for cancer research and a series of Bax-related proteins, aiming to help those who endeavor to do cancer research and eventually benefit the society.
