Goodbye Behance ProSite — Hello Me in a Nutshell!

On June 2016 Behance’s ProSite will close their doors for good. I’ve used this product in the past, and know a few others who have as well, so I’ll be sad to see it go. As with every ending however, there are a great new beginnings to consider. Adobe’s replacement product, Adobe Portfolio, looks like a good alternative with some compelling features at $9.99 USD for a monthly subscription. Some of the perks include great font selection, WYSIWYG editing, some features to protect your images and a custom domain name. It’s also beautifully designed and looks to be pretty simple to set up.

What it won’t get you is all of your social media in one place. Like most website tools, you will need to link out to other networks with little control over the look, instead of bringing content into one singular place. I’m a bit of a control freak when it comes to my personal brand, so this make me a little nervous.

Portfolio is based on templated layouts which works if you can find a layout that suits you or if you know a little bit of coding. We at Me in a Nutshell think differently. We believe that a modular approach will allow creatives to have more control over the design of their site with little effort and zero coding.

We also believe that a personal portfolio isn’t just a beautiful image of your polished work anymore. Portfolios have evolved. What once was a portfolio of images now includes your resume, day to day activities, and your hobbies. If it’s public, like it or not, it’s a part of your personal brand.

Employers today want to see not only your work, but your thought process and contribution to community. What are you sharing on Twitter, what are your thoughts on Tumblr, and have you created any videos on YouTube? The collection of this content forms an holistic 360 degree view of you. A view that you should completely control and curate so that others see you in the best possible light.

So, what is Me in a Nutshell?

It’s an web app that brings your social media together into one place. It uses your social media content to create a personal website that tells your story. In a nutshell, it’s a code-free way for creatives to build a web page that showcases their work, passion and personality. Best of all, it never needs updating. Since you’re always on your social media, updating, uploading content your Nutshell is always dynamically grabbing content. Easy peasy!

We’re also making the product better every day. Selecting a custom domain and removing the branding have been some of our top requests and we want to make sure we’re effectively supporting our users by delivering the features that they are asking for.

If Behance is your only creative outlet, Adobe’s Portfolio might be the right fit for you. If you also write on Tumblr, or have music on Soundcloud, or have videos on YouTube you might need something that does a little more. Creativity comes in many different forms and takes many different shapes. If your goal is to bring all of your creative outlets together into one place, check out Me in a Nutshell. We think you’ll be glad you did.
