Make Life Happen

Why? A common question heard numerous times a day. Sometimes we hear it from a colleague, our children, family, neighbor and I find more often I hear myself asking…Why?

When? An answer we would all love to hear to our numerous questions…but not necessarily like… when the cards get dealt to us.

How? Honestly I struggle with this question…It’s the human condition I think to want to control every option, every outcome, and well… everything.

Where? Often times the answer to this question is right in front of you. Some may say… “If it was a snake, it would have bit you.” And sure enough without fail it usually is. But if we are honest, don’t we want to control this too…so it fits into our schedule…it must make our life easier…less stress.…right?

What? Are we really that oblivous that we find ourselves asking this? Are we so distracted that we don’t “See, Hear and Feel?”

Who? A question that has different answers during various seasons of our life. Who are we? Who do we want to be? Who am I really?

Are we truly living? Are you? How do you know? Is it a feeling?

It’s time to make a LIFE

I think the older we get, the more we question…but in reality…I think we should use that same focus on giving, serving and teaching. Countless hours every week are spent sitting on a couch watching mindless shows so that we can “rest.” Now, don’t get me wrong…this is a well deserved treat from time to time, but daily? Truly take a minute and think about it. Most of us probably spend an entire work week sitting and watching reality tv, and more. A work week… 40+hours! Do you realize how you can impact someones life with just one of those hours? What if you gave 5?

What inspires you? Motivates you? At the holidays, I often get excited to purchase gifts for others. I love seeing their excitement, joy and the thrill of surprising them is fun to me. Why only at the holidays do I do this? I don’t have to spend money or add a bow to make it meaningful…right? This morning instead of spending time on the couch, or mindless hours on social media I am going to a lovely place called Heather’s Old Skool Village. It’s an amazing place that serves…truly LOVES and SERVES…all of God’s children.

Located just outside Ft Worth, Texas

Many of us know individuals, and families that have loved ones that have struggled with disabilities. This non-profit organization provides a safe nurturing environment for young adults with disabilities to continue participating and learning when their time in high school has ended. This stimulating community strengthens connections and strives to serve others. Students have opportunities to learn and practice independent life skills and grow their hearts, minds, souls, and lots of vegetables!

We all know how expensive things are just to live daily…imagine adding in medical needs that can be as simple as a few doctors visits to the harder hits on the pocketbook for a new chair, or piece of equipment to help your child to grow and prosper. Would you have the disposable income to take pictures routinely?I know that as a photographer myself, the pictures cost would have to give so that I could take care of their needs. Getting your picture taken is a luxury…not a have to…but a want to… Capturing everday life moments bring me great joy…so with my camera in tow, I am going to conduct free photo sessions with my new friends.

Say Cheese!

Heather’s Old Skool Village (HOSV) is a non-profit organization that is graciously run by amazing folks but the people that know how to make life happen is this inspirational crew that spend the day there. I am beyond excited to meet with them today. So excited that I have been up since before 2am. I will share more details in an upcoming story, but if you would like to give to this A-M-A-Z-I-N-G organization…here is their link to their website… http://www.heathersoldskoolvillage.org.

This is my plan. I am working on less couch time and giving more time to others. The sacrifice of time brings joy. I challenge you to do the same. Make it a goal this week to spend 2 hours serving. You will find that you are not as “TIRED” as you thought.

HOSV is currently in need of help. You can help by donating through their website and remembering them on September 22, 2016 and give on North Texas Giving Day. Here is the link so you can make the dream of a bigger skool house a possiblity…. https://northtexasgivingday.org . They have so many friends that love their program, they need a bigger location. Now go out there, make a life happen!
