All you need to know about eyelash extensions

“Most women don’t have the time or patience to apply fake eyelashes every day. (We barely have enough time to use an eyelash curler!) So it’s no surprise that lash extensions have become increasingly popular in recent years” (Oliver, 2013). Eyelash extensions have become a trend today. From celebrities, to runway models, to working moms are all now trying eyelash extensions for a beautiful look. There are many things to keep in mind before considering doing eyelash extensions. The most important part is to always go to a professional who has the necessary experience and training on eyelash extensions application. Also, you get what you pay for. There are many technicians out there promising the best eyelash extensions, when in reality they can mess up your own natural eyelashes. Always be cautious of who you go with, and ask for before and after photos of their original work.

What to expect on your first appointment?

The first appointment or consultation is where you and your eyelash professional talk about the pros and cons of eyelash extensions. You should be tested for any glue allergies prior to the session to prevent any reactions close to your eye, since this is a sensitive area. Once you make sure your skin will be all right, you talk to your technician about the length and fullness you want. Think about what is important to you. Do you want your eyelashes to be longer, but not extremely full? Or are you looking for a fuller look rather than longer? Also, you might be looking for both worlds. It is very important to communicate with your technician about what you want, that way you are both on the same page and the results will be always what you are looking for. You might want to consider if you want eyelash extensions for a special occasion, like a wedding, prom or graduation party. There are always pictures taken at these events; therefore a more extreme look is more appropriate. But if the everyday natural appearance is what is more important to you, then make sure to address this with your technician.

Keeping up

Eyelash extensions can be high maintenance, make sure to keep in mind that you will have to invest not only money ($65-$200), but some time into your appointments. Anew set of eyelashes can take anywhere from 1–2 hours, depending if it is a partial or full set. The time it takes also depends on how experienced your eyelash professional is. I have been doing eyelash extensions for 7 years, it takes me 1 hour to complete a full set. Eyelash extension should last between 2–6 weeks. That depends on how well you take care of them at home. A fill typically takes me between 30–45 min, it varies from technician to technician.

After care

After care includes not getting your extensions wet for a period of 24–48 hours right after the application to make sure glue adherence and bonding is completely set on your natural eyelashes. No use of steam directly on the eyelashes is recommended, and make sure to use oil-free makeup remover around your eyes, since the oil-based ones cause glue bonding to weaken.

Eyelash extensions will make you feel beautiful , your eyes will pop-up more. Are you ready to feel sassier? Then give eyelash extensions a try. Just remember to consider all recommendations given in this article.
