A weekend in Taipei Palais De ChineJuly 2011
This is a nostalgic review.. the first getaway my (now husband) and I went to when we were dating was Taipei— 45 minute plane ride from HKG and staying at the Palais de Chine.
We booked the hotel as part of Cathay Pacific packages— one of the only times that we ever did this as we found out that it’s cheaper to book separately and find your own deals. At the time, Palais de Chine was a great brand new hotel conveniently located next to the main railway station.
Breakfast buffet was sensational, with different food everyday. Though I do appreciate the consistent quality of buffet breakfasts of huge chains, sometimes, staying at a boutique hotel allows for a more quirky recomendation. For example, we couldn’t get enough of the mixed wild mushrooms that were served every morning at the breakfast buffet. Close to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai. Staff were friendly. Room service was excellent, bar restaurant has the best burgers in Taipei. Rooms were nice though the kingsize bed turned out to be just 2 single beds pushed together. bathrooms were lovely, hotel had a nice gothic theme which was very unique.

We did the usual things in Taipei— Din Tai Fung, Taipei 101, and street food market and bubble tea.
