At the root of this harassment case is a culture that has allowed it to happen for so long. Leaders have the power to define culture. And in our ecosystem it has become clear through the handling of the Ushahidi case that the leadership is part of the problem, given how callously the board managed the situation. Accepting this does not take away from the value they have added over the years. However, they have demonstrated poor leadership and we as the community should not deny ourselves the opportunity to grow, merely out of fear of the truth. Nobody is perfect, and the future of the ecosystem depends on governance that defends the basic integrity of all of us.
I find that this statement fails to address that leadership has failed in a fundamental way.
