That’s a common read, but in foraging societies where you’d think brute strength would rule, there is little in the way that resembles patriarchy. The history of patriarchy is tied up in the history of institutions from religions to business organizations, so it can be seen to have an explicit design even if it’s not conscious. And once that’s acknowledged, then the importance of changing the design of institutions becomes clear.
