This article is quite enlightening, and while I do not disagree with its premise, how does this idea work when taken to its very end? What about morally repugnant behaviors like murder or rape? Should we empathize with those behaviors? Should we expend effort in trying to understand what situational factors pushed an offender to such a point? Or do we draw a line and say this theory works to explain human behavior only up to here and no further? I will admit that my first read left me feeling very optimistic and motivated, but upon the second, I began questioning if this idea of explaining human behavior based on situational factors can really be taken to the very end…
