What We Know About White Nationalist Groups and the Protests
Along With Some Helpful Tips for White Progressives
This week quite a few readers have asked me about the possibility of White Nationalist groups inciting violence during the protests.
Here’s what we know: White Nationalist groups are seeking to exploit the protests to incite violence and terror. As Daily Kos’ David Neiwert reports there’s mounting evidence that groups including the Boogaloo Bois are seeking “not to merely join the protests, but to both inflict violence and property damage, as well as to threaten other communities with it, all in order to heighten political tensions around the protests.” White Nationalist groups have organized campaigns on Twitter and Facebook posing as Antifa and calling for violence in their name. And on Wednesday evening three men with ties to white nationalist groups were arrested for on terrorism charges for conspiring to spark violence during recent protests, including local George Floyd protests.
I want to offer some words of caution for white progressives and liberals in how we’re thinking and talking about this moment. Here are two things I’d urge my fellow white people to keep in mind when talking about the role of white nationalist groups during the protests.
