1-Hour

Two hours after our 10am departure time we are all departing and physically on the road. Pretty good for a 15-person strong team, two RVs with a towed trailer, a van and a 4runner. One extra car is following us with overflow donations.

It’s raining dogs in San Francisco. It made packing bag after bag after bag a tremendously juicy job.

Our first Rendevous spot is Reno. Cabela’s is an outdoor shop in Reno that will serve as a meeting spot. They sell propane and other camping, outdoor gear.

Cabela’s will be our first chance to sit and look at maps and routes. Last Friday there was a blizzard in the Plains. 6–10" of snow was dumped across South Dakota. We hear North Dakota was spared. We need to assess snow tires, chains and load capacity for picking up cords of fire wood.

Courtesy of www.woodheat.org:

One full cord: full cord is a large amount of wood. It measures four feet high by four feet wide by eight feet long (4 ft. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.) and has a volume of 128 cubic feet. The amount of solid wood in a cord varies depending on the size of the pieces, but for firewood it averages about 85 cubic feet.

We’re hopeful.

We’re excited.

We know many obstacles lie ahead.
