The Media is Lying to You About Misty Copeland

Ballerina, racial justice and body diversity advocate Misty Copeland has been misrepresented and lied about to suit an agenda.

Ballet is a dance art form that for many people conjures up thoughts of tradition, elegance, opulence, and prestige. However, despite ballet schools enjoying immense popularity by seizing the fascination of young children, the art form is not well understood by the general public.

A random person, if asked to name even one professional ballet dancer, is likely to come up empty. With the exception being, of course, Misty Copeland.

Misty Copeland has been aggressively presented to the public as many things; a ballet prodigy, a “superstar”, a “trailblazer”, the first principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater who is of African descent, and one of the few advocates for positive body image and racial diversity in ballet.

She’s danced on stage with Prince and has discussed policy in the White House with President Obama, along with appearing on numerous other mainstream platforms.

Copeland enjoys the rare status of being a “celebrity” ballet dancer, because despite the immense talent and commitment required to be a professional in that field, Americans…
