Nothing seems to grab headlines like an accidental death in an amusement park. The idea of a person dying horrifically in a place that is supposed to be joyous is undeniably unnerving. These events are rare, however, when they do occur, they demand our undivided attention.

This was certainly the situation with many recent cases, including the infamous and incredibly disturbing incident where a little boy, Caleb Schwab, was killed on a large water slide called the Verrückt at a waterpark called Schlitterbahn.

Other accidents involved a 12-year old Nebraska girl who was scalped on a carnival ride in 2016 (however, she did survive) and a 6-year old little girl from Ethiopia who plunged to her death in Colorado when she was ejected from a mine drop ride upon its descent in 2021. She was apparently sitting on top of her seatbelts and staff failed to notice.

The shocking death of Tyre Sampson has been no exception.

On March 24th, 2022, the 14-year old Missouri native slid from his seat during the descent of a nearly 400-foot “drop tower-style” ride called “Free Fall” at Icon Park, where he was killed instantly in front of horrified onlookers.
