Thank you for your insights. I am a Baltimore native and struggle with understanding the continuing murders in our city. I recall an article I read when I first moved here in 1994. This article argued that Baltimore would not solve its crime problem until it solved the race one. Sadly, nearly two decades later, things haven’t gotten better. We have “blue light districts” also. Drugs, crime, violence in some neighborhoods. Across the street, million dollar homes and there are color lines. One thing I have cried for is an open minded solution to the drug war. Personally, I believe that race is the tool used by the power brokers to justify their continuing “war.” Your piece makes poignant how this is very real. Thank you again. I look forward to reading more.
